New Year's Day = Hair of the Dog

Happy New Year's everyone! Ringing in the new year often means waking up with a fuzzy head, rough tummy and thoughts of 'what was I thinking having that last glass or three' running through your muddled brain. Yes, it's the morning-after-the-night-before. Here's a little something to take the edge of one too many glasses of Dom. A Bloody Mary is the usual prescription, however, being adverse to tomato juice, I'm not a fan (and really, if you've over-imbibed, could you even stomach to look at tomato juice, let alone drink it?). This cocktail, on the other hand, seems like a winner. It's called (what else) Hair of the Dog. It has the perfect mix of alcohol (the dog), a bit of sour (to sooth the tummy) and a bit of heat (to aide digestion and bring you back to life). 

Here's to a fabulous 2009 for all!

Hair of the Dog

6 oz gin (preferably Bulldog)

1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

2 - 3 dashes Tabasco sauce

slice of chili pepper

Pour gin and Tabasco into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake. Strain into a chilled rocks glass. Garnish with a slice of chili pepper (*** CAUTION - be sure to wash your hands well after handling the chili pepper). Enjoy and head back to bed.
